FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions




TopDoes Rawkus guarantee my job? Rawkus cannot guarantee your employability. It is up to you to apply for positions that you are experienced in and capable of doing. Rawkus will be on board at all times to help you out with your job applications.
TopWhat if I don't get a job before I arrive in NZ? Your working Holiday Visa does not require you to obtain a job offer before you leave your country, so you have the option of coming to NZ and finding a job once you are here. Rawkus are here to help you with this process and you will still have access to the Rawkus Job Page online.
TopWill I make any money to take back home? You will not make millions living in NZ however it all boils down to how you manage your own finances. You will certainly be making enough for your living costs whilst in NZ.
TopWhere will I live? Rawkus totally believe that your living quarters make up about 75% of helping you to have a kick ass time in NZ. The Rawkus Accommodation page lists accommodation from flats through to backpackers. It all depends on how early you apply for the programme as to what will still be available on the accommodation page. You can also use the forum to hook up with others to find a room down under.
TopCan I live with my friends? Yes definitely, you just need to make sure you either secure a house together or manage to secure a room in a house, whether it be to share or two rooms. Once again the forum is good for hooking up with others online to suss out digs.
TopWhat if I cant find a place to live? You do have the option of staying in a backpackers upon arrival until you do find housing, however Rawkus like to help everyone secure accommodation before they leave their home country. If you were to stay in a backpackers upon arrival The Rawkus Crew would be on stand by to put you into the first available housing.
TopWill I be living with other Rawkus people? Most likely, if you are using the Forum you will be able to get in touch with other Rawkus Peeps to arrange housing. However there are flatmate ads on the Rawkus Accommodation Page in which case you may end up living with NZers.
TopCan I just stay two months? You can however be aware that an employer may not want to hire you because of this and accommodation may be scarce for such a short amount of time. Rawkus will certainly do all they can to help guide you in the direction of short term accommodation and employment. There are jobs available in QT and Wanaka that only require week to week employees.
TopCan I travel out any time I want? Yes you can, however if you fly out after the suggested departure dates from Rawkus you may miss out on the Welcome Party and Orientations.
TopCan I book my own flights? Rawkus does offer sick discounts on Flights however you are not required to book through Rawkus, you can source your own flights. The benefit of choosing Rawkus flights are the discounts and you get to fly with and meet other Rawkus Crew heading to NZ.
TopIs there anything in particular I should pack? Remember your passport and store it safely in your Rawkus Travel Wallet! Try not to overpack just bring out the gear that you will need for what season it may be in NZ.
TopIf I have an accident or my gear gets stolen am I covered by my insurance? Yes you should be and this all depends on what Insurance Policy you take out. The travel Insurance through Rawkus is total cover and will cover you for any medical injury or loss or theft of property.
TopWill Rawkus help me when i'm in NZ? Yes at all times at any time. Once you arrive in NZ you will be given a free call number that you can reach any Rawkus Crew on at any time. We are on board to help with anything from, accommodation, employment, moving house, drinking, partying, snowboarding, filming,info about anything, the only thing we ain't down on is wiping your ass, that is YOUR job.
TopWhat about transport in QT or Wanaka? There is a local bus service in Queenstown and Wanaka is small enough to get around on foot, skatey or hands. Getting to the mountain is a breeze as hitchhiking is a common means of travel in NZ, all the resorts have bus services also.
TopCan I buy a car? Sure, NZ is stocked with cheap reliable second-hand cars and vans. Just make sure you smack the thing with plenty of Rawkus stickers. AND remember that we drive on the left side here in NZ so start practicing in the paddocks if you plan on driving here, or buy a big ‘IM A FOREIGNER’ sticker.
TopCan I buy a cell phone? There are Pre Pay phones and they are a dime a dozen to come across. Rawkus have a few for rent however its first in first serve. Vodafone is our local supplier and can hook you up with a telecommunications package.
TopCan I stay longer than a season? Yeah totally, just talk to any Rawkus Crew (except Clay he hates immigration work!) and we will sort it out.
TopWill Rawkus help me with jobs and accommodation after the winter/summer season has finished? For the total duration that you are in NZ Rawkus will be here to help with anything, however if you do decide to get permant residency we will have to have a wee chat about cutting the umbilical cord at some stage.
TopWhy should I choose you guys over Bunac or any other organisation? Just go to their website and then come back to ours! Then ask yourself again!
